The Adoption Process For You!

Adoption is not for everyone, whether your the parents adopting a new child or your the parents that are offering your child up for adoption. Either situation is difficult for either parent because on one hand you are losing your baby. The other side is that you are getting anothers child. Adoptions can be a difficult process to go thru because most agencies want the parents to be a perfect match for the child. Each possible parent for any adopted child has to be thoroughly interviewed before getting the child to themselves. Children are not put up for adoption because their parents do not love them, they are put up for adoption because their parents know they cannot give them the life they deserve. By putting the child up for adoption, the parents are giving that child a chance to be who they are and live a better life. After the final decision has been made about putting your child up for adoption you then must decide several other things about your child's life like;

  • Will my child know about his adoption?
  • What do adoptive children think about being adopted?
  • What will my child think about me for choosing adoption?
  • When will I feel better and more confident about my decision?
  • Will the adoptive family love my child as much as a biological child?
  • If I choose adoption, will I some day regret my decision?
After all of these questions have been considered in your decision as a parent you may be ready to call the adoption agency and discuss putting your child up for adoption. Once you have contacted the adoption agency you will get help from them deciding where you would like to place your child in their new home. Most agencies offer some free counseling after the adoption is complete. Some agencies offer 24/7 service calls for parents going thru a difficult time. The parents get to go thru different possible parents for the baby and even interview them to see if they are what they are looking for in a family. When looking for a family somethings that should be considered is;
  • Have a strong relationship and are committed to adoption.
  • Have the ability to financially provide for a child.
  • Are excited to get to know you, based on the amount of contact you are seeking.
  • Have been screened through criminal background checks and have been interviewed several times.
  • Understand what is important to you in your adoption plan.
Once you have chosen a family for the child to go to you may want to contact them more until you learn that they will be good parents. Some ways you may be able to communicate with the soon to be parents would be by; conference, e-mail, pre-placement meetings, and interactions thru the hospital visits. Depending on the state you live in, the agency you go thru for the adoption may be able to help you financially get thru some situations. Once you have picked out the perfect parents for your child you may begin to set up the adoption plan. This basically is stating visiting rights of the biological parents and dates of when the new parents will be getting their child to be. This plan may also discuss prices for the adoption agency. The day the baby is born in the hospital the soon to be parents may be there according to the biological parents adoption plan. Once both families are comfortable to take the baby home, the official adoption paperwork will be signed and the new parents will take their adopted child home with them. By signing the adoption paperwork at the hospital this makes the adoption finalized and the biological parents are no longer the child's parents. The adoption plan also comes into effect after the child is born, it all depends on how often the biological parents would like to visit their child. There are always families that would like a child in there life so adoption agencies are always looking for possible adoption parents. Adoption prices may vary depending on the agency, the families, or even the state your in. Prices for adoption can be free-$2,500 per child. Again this all depends on several different factors around the adoption.
